Warren Haynes Discusses Tommy Bolin & Friends Album, Relix Premieres Track

March 27 is the official release date of Great Gypsy Soul. This disc presents a number of contemporary musicians working with tracks left behind by the late guitarist Tommy Bolin. Warren Haynes serves as co-producer and he tells Relix, “The Tommy Bolin tribute project is unique in the way that we took outtakes and alternate versions from the original sessions of Tommy’s 2 solo records in the seventies and added new guitar performances and in some cases vocal performances by a hand-picked array of artists/musicians who are playing and singing along, not only with Tommy, but with the original cast which in some cases featured Jeff Porcaro, Jan Hammer, David Sanborn etc. In addition to playing on a track, my role as co-producer was to recruit fellow guitarists.” John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Nels Cline, Peter Frampton, Joe Bonamassa and Steve Lukather are among the artists who worked on the project, which is now available for pre-order.

One of the tracks from Great Gypsy Soul, which features an appearance from Haynes, is now streaming on Relix.com.
